How To Style Your Hijab

There are so many different ways to wear a hijab, but the way you choose depends on your personal preference and style. We encourage you to experiment with different looks to find the one that you feel most comfortable in. Everyday Hijab Styles
Classic hijab styles are tried and tested in cultures around the world, and may well be the first styles you ever wear. They’re easy to put together, won’t budge through the day, and go well with any outfit. They can also be tied with any material, making your choices endless.
The Classic Wrap
This is the most recognisable hijab style, and the easiest to put together.
1. Frame the hijab round your face asymmetrically, keeping one side longer than the other
2. Wrap the longer side over your head, and back under your chin. Pin it by your chin to keep it secure, and drape the material over your shoulder
3. Fasten a pin on the top of your head, if you need to, making sure it catches all the material
The classic wrap is suited for all face shapes, and gives you the option to add a bit of a contrast by wearing a hijab cap in another colour underneath. You can even accessorise using a decorative pin as a focal point.
You may even choose to wrap the longer side around your neck for added draping, if your hijab is long enough. Keep the shorter side hidden by tucking it under the collar of your shirt.
The Triangle Wrap
This style offers two looks in one, as you can either pin back the tail-ends of your hijab to keep your front clear, or let them hang free for a looser look.
1. Fold a square hijab in half diagonally to create a triangle shape
2. Position the hijab’s longest side across your head, making sure that the tail ends hanging in front are even
3. Pull the tail ends together under your chin, tucking the hijab in at the sides by your face to stop any gaps in the material
4. Pin the hijab in place under your chin using a safety pin
5. If you want to pin the tail ends behind your head, cross them over each other and your shoulders to pin the ends together
The triangle wrap is suitable for all face shapes, and only needs a square hijab. This style is best suited to fabrics like georgette and chiffon.
Use breathable cotton or jersey materials for this method to style a sports hijab, which will ensure you stay covered without having excess fabric hinder your performance.
The Side Wrap
For this hijab style, you’ll need a maxi hijab in any material. This is just like the classic wrap, but leaves the tail end draped gently over your shoulder and flowing down your back.
1. Frame the hijab round your face, keeping one side longer than the other. Try and have the shorter side just a few inches below your chin
2. Fold the edges before pinching them underneath your chin, then tuck the short side under the longer side
3. Keeping the long side folded, cross it round over your head before bringing it back to the side of your face. Pull it taut to keep the shorter side secure
4. Wrap the longer side across the front of your neck and drape it across the opposite shoulder
This style can be done without the use of pins when worn with our cotton twill range, ensuring no chance of the hijab slipping.
Minimalist, Chic Hijab Styles
Ideal for the working girl who wants to showcase a minimalist style, these styles are easy to wear and can be dressed up or down, depending on the occasion.
The Tucked Wrap
This look simply takes the classic wrap and tucks it into your shirt. Make sure your hijab isn’t too long to avoid it looking bulky.
1. Frame the hijab around your face and pinch under your chin, keeping one side longer than the other
2. Cross the longer side over the shorter side and bring it up and around your head
3. Wrap the hijab around your neck, if you can, gently pulling it so it’s tight enough to stay secure without using pins
4. Tuck the hijab ends into the front of your shirt so they’re hidden, and pin them in place to your shirt if you need to
5. Adjust the folds on the front of your hijab so it drapes how you want it to
This style works best with thinner materials so it’s not bulky, like our fine modal hijabs, which don’t require any pins. If you’re opting for a soft silk, take extra care when using any pins, trying to use magnetic ones where possible.
Draped Hijab Styles
Volume and draped styles work to create elegant hijab styles. They’re easy to accomplish and work best with lighter, flowing materials, such as chiffon, georgette or crepe.
The Voluminous Wrap
1. Fit your underscarf as you normally would and frame the hijab around your face, keeping one side longer than the other
2. Pinch the hijab under your chin, like how you would style a classic hijab, and pin the hijab in place using a safety pin
3. Bring the shorter side up and over your head, so it’s draping down the opposite side of your face. Let the material create natural folds as you style it, neatening them as you’d like
4. Wrap the longer side under your chin and over your head so it joins the shorter length of your hijab. Make sure you don’t pull it too tightly, as this can flatten the folds. Adjust the hijab so the folds are how you want them
5. Use straight hijab pins to secure the hijab on top of your head and to the side, keeping them hidden amongst the folds
As this style requires pins to keep the flowing material in place, you must take care so you don’t rip or leave large holes in the material. Magnetic pins offer a good solution to this problem, as they don’t damage the material.
The Scarf Wrap
This style doesn’t require any pins and is kept in place by wrapping it the same way you would wrap a scarf, keeping the volume around your neck and not on your head. Use lighter materials to keep it fluffy, pleated, and full of volume.
1. Drape the hijab around your face, keeping one side longer than the other
2. Pinch the two sides together under your chin, crossing the longer side over the shorter side
3. Wrap the longer side around your neck, pulling it tightly enough that it stays secure, but not so tightly that you lose the natural folds
4. Fluff out the tail ends and the folds at your chest
If you need extra security, you can use hijab magnets to secure the scarf under your chin, taking care, as ever, when working with the lighter materials. Soft materials are ideal for this look, as it allows you to boost the volume around your neck without having the material drop.
Using Eco-Friendly Materials
The material you choose for your hijab depends on the style you want to wear. Different materials provide varying of drape, volume and coverage. For example, if you don’t want to use any clips or pins in your style, we recommend using jersey or modal materials as they’re more likely to stay in place.
